Conditional joy.

While growing up, I heard statements like these a lot ... "If you come first in the class, then I will buy you the video game."

There's no joy in this statement. Neither in the condition, nor in the result.

There's joy in learning. And there's joy in playing the game. There's no joy in chasing a target in order to get a prize behind it.
