I assume...

We assume things all the time. Sometimes, we go and verify them. Mostly, we don't. And these assumptions end up becoming the basis for our thoughts and actions.

We may think that we are choosing our assumptions, but most of this is happening on its own, subconsciously.

A one-degree change in our assumptions can have a significant impact downstream on our thoughts and actions. We can start by verbalising some of what our brain is thinking. If not in front of anyone else, then just with ourselves, either by speaking or by writing.

When we tell ourselves, "I am assuming..." or "I assume...", the brain gets to know that it's not the truth, it's a hypothesis worth testing.
