Navigating ambiguity.
There's no ambiguity navigating on the highway. There are paved roads, signposts, and GPS guidance. And most importantly, we can see the other cars going in the same direction.
That's not how projects work, though. The reason they are projects and not jobs is that there is no highway. And especially no one we can see who is driving alongside in the same direction.
Project work is making decisions. Not hard decisions, but assertions. If I do this, this may happen. It might. It might not. When it doesn't, we make a new assertion.
That's why figuring out progress is challenging. Unlike the highway, there is no "you will reach your destination in 43 minutes" message.
Instead, there is persistent forward motion. Now that we are here, what's next? How do we get to where we seek to go?
