Always on.
A few supposedly normal things we can observe people (including you) doing:
Taking a work call from the gym.
Having an emotional chat with a friend on WhatsApp while sitting in a work meeting.
Browsing random reels on Instagram at 2 am in the night while trying to sleep.
All of these would have seemed bizarre a few years ago.
Especially after covid, the lines in our life have blurred so much, I don't think they exist anymore.
We have Slack and email on our phones, so work is always on, no matter where we are. And on the same phones, we have Instagram, YouTube and Netflix which are constantly trying to take our attention to supposedly entertain us (and of course make money for them).
There is no off button anymore. No off from work. No off from anything.
Just because we are on all the time, doesn't mean we need to be.
It might be time to install some off switches.
