Jurassic Park.
There have been almost a dozen movies made on the Jurassic theme but none match the first two directed by Steven Spielberg.
The technology has evolved leaps and bounds over the decades and so have the budgets. So, why are we not making better movies?
Maybe that's the reason. The technology and the budget make the creators forget that the point of the movie is to make us feel.
In the first one, Spielberg puts you in the car with the kids when the T-Rex is attacking them. You don't have space to breathe.
In the new ones, you are given a far shot showing the tremendous VFX work done on the dinosaurs. You might appreciate them, but you aren't afraid.
This applies not just to movies.
Are you putting the camera in the car? Can we feel the tension in your work? Or are you zooming out trying to make us appreciate the effort you have put in your work?
