Spec making skills.

"I wish someone else would do this for me."

This is not an unusual request or wish. We say it all the time. Maybe we mean it, or maybe it's just a way to feel lighter for a second.

But what if we run with it? What if a genie showed up ready to do what we want it to do? Are we ready to tell the genie what to do?

We have all seen Aladdin stories where everything takes an off turn just because the instructions to the genie were not clear. So, the all powerful genie did what it made of the instructions. And that almost never ends well.

Writing specs is a skill. We all have genies now, some technology enabled, some not. What we might lack is the ability to write the specs. To be specific about what we want. And not leave it on the genie to figure it out.

If we get better at spec making skills, instead of wishing we would ask:

"Can you do this for me?"
